WORLD FIRST AID DAY

Cintas Employee Surrounded by Emergency Eyewash and First Aid Cabinets

"Today I had the chance to see our cabinet in action! The only thing streaming faster than her tears was the blood from her clenched hands, as she approached us from her station. Her supervisor and Cintas partners were ready to jump into action immediately.

I honestly believe that without our assistance it would have been much messier. She'll still need stitches, but the bleeding was stopped, contained and fingers wrapped. That's a fulfilling reason to show up and show out. Not only were we dropping off hand protection samples to offer this business more protection, but the site manager was there to witness another level of care.

"I recently was at a customer and while servicing them I noticed an employee that didn’t look well so I started talking to her. She was having a diabetic emergency I ran out to van and grab some glucose for her to take. Within 2 to 3 minutes her sugar went back up and she started feeling better. I know this all too well as my mother is diabetic so having the right product can help in any situation. Now the customer allows this product to be in the cabinets as they had no idea she was diabetic, so you never know when you’ll be in the right place at the time and can use your training and experience to help someone.”

“I was going home from work and was stopped at a stop light. There was a 4Runner that was turning left to the same direction as I was facing. The 4Runner was hit by another car coming from the opposite side of the street. The 4Runner flipped 2-3 times and rest on another car in my left turn lane. My light turned green and I pulled forward to the side. The car in front of my did the same. I jumped out of my car and told the other person to call 911. I went over to the 4Runner and assessed the scene. The 4Runner was on its roof and passengers had crawled out. I ran back to my car and grabbed my trauma bag and started wrapping 1 of the passenger's left hand which was severely injured. I wrapped a foil blanket around her in hopes that she would not going into shock due to blood loss. The police, paramedics, and ambulance arrived and took her away. I gave the driver and police my business card, but I never heard from either. I just hoped that everything ended up ok.”

"In July, we had an employee get MEKP in his eye. MEKP is an organic peroxide and can potentially blind you quite easily. This employee came to my office and informed me of what had happened. We immediately went back downstairs to the eyewash station and started rinsing his eye. We rinsed his eye for at least 15 minutes at the eyewash station (fully draining that station). We then moved off the production floor and continued rinsing his eye while we were waiting for the ambulance to arrive to take him to be evaluated to ensure that he did not have any chemical burns on his eye. Due to us understanding the chemical and the importance of ensuring that his eye was continuously rinsed, he did not end up with chemical burns on his eye nor did he have any lasting side effects.”

“An employee had mixed up his medication that morning and wasn’t feeling well. He got up to use the restroom and was gone for a while. Coworkers went to check on him and they found him on the floor looking blue and purple. They got their AED a week prior so they knew to get it and call 911. They used the AED to save the employee’s life. The same day they called Jeff, their SSR, to come and replace the pads/battery and purchased a CPR and AED training course for their staff.”

“I was working out in the warehouse, and it was on one of the hottest days we’ve had this year, I think I drank 4 or 5 bottles of cold water from the countertop WaterBreak® that we have in our breakroom. I don’t know what I would have done without that, really helped me stay cool and hydrated.”

“A piece of equipment had fallen and severely cut an employee’s arm while on the job. He was able to get to the first aid supplies, clean the wound and seal it. They were then able to properly clean the blood spill in the facility with our BBP kits.”
