Community Impact

We start every day with an understanding that we can make an impact for good. It drives our decisions. It fuels our actions. And it influences our future planning. It is both our privilege and our pledge to act: locally, nationally, globally. Our communities are an integral part of our success. When they thrive, all of us are better for it.

We channel servant-led passion and use it for boots-on-the-ground community service, financial support of numerous not-for-profits, and nurturing a mindset among all our employee-partners that we are here to build something greater than all of us. We’re constantly looking for ways to do more. We understand the obligation we have as a corporation to do the right thing, and we work towards that, every day. From helping schools get the supplies they need, to helping to fund research and prevention of heart disease and cancer, Cintas defines success by looking at what we’re doing to improve our communities.

We’re with our customers for a better workday, and we’re with our communities for a better world.

About Cintas Cares

Cintas Cares is the umbrella under which Cintas engages with our local communities and charitable and philanthropic organizations.

We’re immensely proud of the impact our employee-partners have made in our broader community. Established on the belief that everyone can make a difference, no matter how big or small the effort, Cintas Cares is dedicated to supporting causes and organizations in our local communities in addition to internationally recognized charitable organizations with whom the company has formalized relationships.

With both national platform and hometown opportunities, Cintas Cares provides a framework in which Cintas employee-partners can be active in the community, support the common good and raise funds and awareness for important causes. Each year, Cintas employee-partners throughout North America participate in enterprise-wide programs and fundraisers and offer additional to support local organizations doing good in their local communities. This includes monetary donations, in-kind donations, and active fundraising on behalf of key charitable and not-for-profit organizations.

History

The concept of Cintas Cares originated in 2010 when Cintas published its first Corporate Social Responsibility report, discussing its philanthropic community activities, safety and health vision, environmental sustainability initiatives and its diversity and inclusion programs.

Together, these activities helped Cintas make a bigger impact in its broader community and extending its influence and reach past our employee-partners, customers and shareholders.

In 2014, the annual CSR report was turned digital and CintasCares.com was launched. The website provided greater information and context about Cintas’ key programs.

The name had staying power, and in the late 2019s, Cintas Cares was formalized as the company’s corporate philanthropy and community engagement platform.

Cintas Cares Mission

To proactively enhance Cintas’ involvement in the community while supporting the goals of the business by creating a positive public image, fostering an engaging work environment, and supporting organizations which directly impact the personal and professional lives of our partners, customers, and Stakeholders.

Cintas Cares Vision

Cintas Cares will be recognized internationally as a dedicated partner with a deep-rooted spirit of giving, establishing the belief in our internal and external partners that we can all make a positive impact on the lives of others.

CORPORATE RELATIONSHIPS

Cintas has six primary philanthropic partnerships and initiatives.

Managed at the corporate level through Cintas’ Corporate Affairs Department, these six initiatives allow involvement from all of our U.S. locations and employee-partners. Each partnership is different, but each includes the opportunity for employee-partners and locations across the company to participate in fundraising and awareness activities to direct support these organizations. Our history and involvement with this organizations is detailed throughout this report.

Our Canadian employee-partners partner with similar organizations on a national level, include the equivalent Canadian charities that advance cancer, diabetes, and heart health awareness.

LOCAL INVOLVEMENT

We strive to be good community stewards in every city we operate and serve. One key element of that is our field location’s involvement in their local communities.

We encourage our more than 450 locations across the United States and Canada to get involved and form relationships with local charitable organizations and causes that are meaningful to their business and directly support their communities and neighbors. The Cintas Cares team provides toolkits and support to locations interested in initiating civic and community relationships in their cities and towns.

In addition to our main corporate partnerships, our local engagement also helps broaden Cintas’ impact across North America and provide direct support to organizations helping address the area’s most pressing needs.

These relationships take on many forms, and our locations support a wide variety of causes and organizations, including food banks, donation centers, in-school and after-school programs, neighborhood clean-ups, holiday adoptions, meal service and shelters.

These efforts are regularly documented and shared across the company in regular internal updates called “On the Road” to help share the success of our locations’ local charitable efforts, and also encourage and inspire other locations to get involved.

Cincinnati-area Relationships

In addition to Cintas’ six corporate-level philanthropic relations, we also support other local charitable programs out of our corporate headquarters in Cincinnati. These include relationships with Adopt A Class, where teams of volunteer employee-partners present weekly lessons in local classrooms; the United Way of Greater Cincinnati; and Dress for Success in Cincinnati.

Other corporate headquarter relationships, through sponsorship, donations (monetary or in-kind) or participation, include Boys Hope Girls Hope, Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, Disabled American Veterans 5K, Easterseals, All About Women, Toys for Tots, Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati USA, Ohio Minority Supplier Development Council, Paloozanoire, the Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio, and the YWCA Greater Cincinnati.

At the Heart of it All

Monica D. and Milton H. are two employee-partners at Cintas who both experienced heart health complications and what it means to see the Cintas culture in action.

What makes Cintas a great place to work? If you ask any Cintas employee-partner, they’ll more than likely mention the culture. It’s what guides the business and creates a supportive work environment, and ultimately, is the key to success. The Cintas culture is demonstrated not only during good times but also in periods of uncertainty or difficulty.

Monica D., Senior Director of Marketing at Cintas, and Milton H., Key Account Manager at the Cintas Tampa location, both faced serious heart health challenges. They also experienced the Cintas culture in an unexpected way that they will not soon forget.

Almost two years ago, Monica was experiencing some health issues. Despite each test she took, it would come back negative. It wasn’t until she had a CT cardio stress test that she realized something was seriously wrong with her heart. She was asked to wait so the doctor could review the scans and when they came back, the doctor told her she would be going into surgery that afternoon to put in a stent. During the surgery, they realized there was more blockage than expected and would need to perform a double bypass.

At that point, so many things were running through her head — worrying about her daughters and her husband, what else they were going to find, and what would happen if the procedure didn’t go well. This was not what she expected, and she realized it was something much bigger. During this process and recovery, she started reevaluating life, discovering new priorities and realizing what really matters.

It has been a journey, but one that has made her see things differently and appreciate things more. One of those things is the employee-partners and culture at Cintas.

“Once I came back, it was just all the little things like employee-partners going out of their way to check in on me, asking if I needed anything, or offering to help,” said Monica. “It's not just the words of encouragement; it's the sincerity and authenticity of my employee-partners and the support I received from my team, employee-partners, and everyone I've worked with throughout my career. This extends all the way up to the leaders of the company.

“I've worked at some larger companies in Cincinnati, and they don’t have the type of culture Cintas has,” said Monica. “It is an inclusive group of people that truly care about each other. I think that's the thing that makes us different from other companies.”

She gained a renewed perspective, cherishing the bonds with family, the camaraderie with friends, and the empathy shown by employee-partners. It clarified what Monica truly valued and what was important in her life.

“You value those types of relationships and what is at the heart of our culture and my experience deepened that value,” said Monica.

Another Cintas employee-partner, Milton, also went through a similar situation as Monica, as he also had heart issues of his own that led to open-heart surgery. Despite being at a Cintas location 940 miles away from Monica’s, the response was no different.

“I have felt that love and culture from the beginning when I came to this company,” said Milton. “After having my surgery, I felt that same love and care. The entire Florida group, employee-partners at VP levels, and even Macarena Cloninger (Senior Vice President of the Rental Division) reached out to me to express concern, and that they were there for me.”

Milton wants others to see this type of culture through his actions and to have a chance to come to Cintas and experience it for themselves.

“You can feel it, and that's what I want people to see,” said Milton. “You feel that love. When you work for a company like that, you want to give it your all. That's the reason why I'm here, and that's the reason why you see me happy. No one's telling me what to say. There's not a script in my hands. This is all from the heart. This is what I feel and that's why I invite people to join Cintas.”

This culture was at play during the Heart Mini Marathon on March 16, as Cintas is a major supporter of the American Heart Association. With both Monica and Milton suffering from heart health complications, it is further proof that Cintas exemplifies this culture in the communities it serves.

“It really says a lot about who we are as a company,” said Monica. “So many people have some type of connection to somebody with heart disease, whether it's a family member, a friend, or an employee-partner that has faced some type of heart issue.”

Many people do know someone impacted by heart disease, and in the United States alone, nearly half of all adults have some form of cardiovascular disease. The American Heart Association’s mission is to save lives by raising awareness and educating people about the importance of heart health, and Monica feels that her experience has created a similar purpose.

“You start questioning, ‘Why am I here?’ when you come away from a situation like this,” said Monica. “I felt like my purpose was to help others. Whether it’s to help figure out when to go to the hospital, to call a doctor, or to figure out what they need to do. I believe I have a role to play by helping others, so they don’t wait until it’s too late.”

Cintas: Where culture is at the heart of it all.
