Cintas employees spring into action

Using an AED correctly and at the right time is vitally important when seconds count.

On March 24th of 2023, Cintas Training & Compliance instructors Nicole Colon and Michelle Troast had just finished teaching a confined space course and were conducting a site walkthrough. As they were making their way back to the training room, they suddenly heard people yelling to call 911.

Nicole and Michelle jumped into action and immediately went to the room to help —where they saw a man on the ground unresponsive and not breathing. Michelle began performing CPR, while Nicole grabbed a Cintas-serviced AED and connected it to him.

After the AED advised and delivered a shock, Michelle and a Safety Manager in the room continued taking turns providing CPR. Thankfully, the man began breathing about two minutes after the initial AED shock, and he woke up shortly after and began speaking. At that point, Emergency Services arrived and took him to the hospital.

“I just can’t express how unreal the entire situation was, the fact that this man went into cardiac arrest with two CPR instructors nearby and an AED hanging on the wall next to him,” Michelle said. Indeed, this was a fortunate coincidence that was truly life-saving.

Emergencies can happen in the workplace at any time, so it pays to know how to respond to them promptly and effectively before emergency professionals arrive.
